Set in a small Moravian village, the opera follows its heroine as she struggles to make something out of a life plagued by misfortune and hardship. Cornelia Beskow takes on the title character, sharing the stage with Manuela Custer as her imperious stepmother, the Kostelnička, and tenors Charles Workman and Robert Watson as the half-brothers vying for Jenufa’s love. Maestro Juraj Valcuha, a leading interpreter of the Czech musical canon, takes the podium to conduct this poignant, yet ultimately uplifting, drama.
