- Run time: 2hrs 30min
- Sung in: Italian
- Surtitles: English
- Opera house: Teatro La Fenice
The only complete opera by Arrigo Boito, Mefistofele is a riveting adaptation of Goethe’s Faust. Alex Esposito brings his characteristically booming bass-baritone and energetic stage presence to the title role, opposite Piero Pretti as Faust, the aging philosopher yearning for more in life. Maria Agresta as the naive Margherita and Maria Teresa Leva as the mythic Helen of Troy round up the ensemble. Nicola Luisotti leads the mighty Orchestra and Chorus of La Fenice in this under-appreciated gem.
