Soprano Monica Zanettin is Cio-Cio-San, the trusting and innocent young geisha who falls in love with lieutenant Pinkerton (Vincenzo Costanzo), only to later be abandoned by him. Manuela Custer is Suzuki, Cio-Cio-San’s loyal servant, and Alberto Mastromarino plays the American consul Sharpless, who does all he can but is unable to avert tragedy. Sesto Quatrini conducts.
